Made for mixing, but just as good neat. Monkey Shoulder is a smooth, rich blended malt that bartenders love, and it works in everything from an Old Fashioned to a Penicillin.
About Monkey Shoulder
William Grant & Sons (the family behind Glenfiddich and The Balvenie) launched Monkey Shoulder in 2003. It's a blend of single malts from Speyside distilleries. The name is a nod to the maltmen of old: turning barley by hand for long shifts often left them with a strained shoulder that hung down, known as "monkey shoulder".
Style
A blended malt, which means it's 100% malt whisky from several distilleries, with no grain whisky.
Nose
Fresh and fruity, with malt, honey and vanilla.
Palate
Smooth and creamy, with vanilla, orange zest and a little spice.
Finish
Medium length, with gentle spiced oak.
How to enjoy
Try it in an Old Fashioned, a Penicillin or a simple highball with ginger ale. It's also easy-going neat or over ice, which makes it a good first bottle for anyone new to Scotch.
