Part of Black Bottle's experimental Alchemy Series, and one for the curious. This blend was finished in virgin Andean oak, a South American wood that's almost unheard of in Scotch. The result is a mix of fruit and nut, with gentle smoke.
About Black Bottle
Black Bottle was created in 1879 by the Graham brothers, tea blenders from Aberdeen. The Alchemy Series is where the blenders experiment with unusual casks and finishes.
Maturation
Finished for seven months in virgin Andean oak casks with a range of toast and char levels. The wood adds tannin and spice, a bit like American oak but bolder. Bottled at 46.3%.
Nose
Iodine and smoke, then hazelnut whip, figs, fudge and baking spice.
Palate
Layers of vanilla, honey and smoked toffee with nutmeg and cinnamon.
Finish
Soft smoke drifting through sweet notes, like nutty chocolate.
How to enjoy
Neat or with a drop of water. Try it with toasted nuts, dark chocolate or a coconut dessert. It's a fun bottle to share with friends who think they know blends.
