The name Woodcutter's stems from when David Powell spent several years working in the Scottish Highlands as a lumberjack or woodcutter in the Torbreck forest. Like all Torbreck wines, it's sourced from hand-harvested and hand-tended low yielding vines.
Bold and hearty it shows ripe sweet fruit flavours with supple tannins. Has quickly become a firm favourite of all the full-bodied Barossa red wine lovers out there. Perhaps the best feature of this wine is it's complexity and texture which are rarely found at this price.
Food Pairing: Beef, Lamb, Game, Poultry
Shiraz
This 14.5% ABV full bodied wine is from Barossa Valley (about an hour's drive from Adelaide) which is famous for their red wines, especially Shiraz. We were introduced to this wine about 5 years ago from a friend from Australia who always has a few Woodcutters in his stash whenever we pay him a visit. Over the years, it has become our firm favourite wine to bring over for dinner with close friends to quietly impress without breaking the bank. For a full bodied and strong red, it is surprisingly easy to drink with it being smooth and well balanced. This entry-level wine has earned a lot of praise for its richness, succulence and long finish. Torbreck was founded by Dave Powell who spent several years working in the Scottish Highlands as a lumberjack in a Forest just so happened to be named Trobreck |
